Nature of Science
Understanding how science works allows one to easily distinguish science from non-science. Thus, to understand biological evolution, or any other science, it is essential to begin with the nature of science.

I have listed a series of questions for you to answer throughout the week. You will answer question 1 on Monday, question 2 on Tuesday and so forth please make sure your comment is at least one paragraph and remember some of the grammer techniques we have been working on:) By Friday, January 22nd you should have left five comments. Next week as a class we will compile all the comments and come up with one clear definition for each question. If at anytime you are unable to access the internet at home please notify me. So put on your "science" cap and help me solve what science is, what makes it fun and what role it plays in society!

-What makes science fun for you?
-What topics and experiments do you enjoy?
-What science concepts are evident in everyday life?

Question 3 Wednesday- Sciences Asks Three Basic Questions
Look at the below picture and answer the following questions.

-How does it work?
-How did it come to be this way?

Question 4 Thursday-
-What role does science play in society? How has science affected you personally?
Questions 5 Friday-
-The purpose of science is to learn about our universe. The joy of science emanates from the freedom to explore and wonder. However, in order to maximize the probability that in the end we get things right, science follows sensible guidelines. Why is it important to have certain guidelines?

I like how you explained the purpose of this assignment- why the students will need to understand the nature of science. Students need a purpose, otherwise, they don't know why they do what they are told to do. Also, good job mapping out questions for each day in the week. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you split your questions up into days of the week. This allows for a week long discussion for your students to be apart of. Your questions are very straightforward and will lead to a great class discussion when everything is complied together. Great blog and fun way to keep your class interested in science.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you included the topic of science in society. This prompt opens up a whole new realm of discussion that allows children to share their strong opinions.
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog! I like how you have your questions organized with specific instructions, this will help students know exactly what is expected of them. I also think the links are a great resource for students, and this is a perfect place for kids to have easy access to them.
ReplyDeleteI loved your question 'what makes science fun for you.' That's requiring your students to think positively about science and I believe every student has at least one thing they like about science. I also enjoyed your Wednesday's activity. That would be fun for students to examine the picture and make predictions on what they think is going on. Overall your blog has great ideas and organization!
